About Gemstones (Mystical Properties, Birthstones)
Like all gifts from nature, no two gemstones will be identical. For example, two 6mm lapis beads will have small differences in color and pattern and perhaps in shape and size. Because butchbeads uses only grade A or higher gems, these differences are very slight. To the eye, two of our necklaces in the same design will appear to be identical. However, given gemstones’ natural variations, they can never exactly match. When you purchase natural gemstone jewelry, you are always getting a one-of-a-kind piece.
Many gemstones are heat treated. This makes the gem hard and stable enough to be formed into beads, pendants, and so on. Many gems are also dyed to enhance their color. While dyed gems are still considered "genuine," butchbeads prefers to use higher grade rather than dyed. The few dyed gems we use will be noted as such in the product description.
All butchbeads gemstones are genuine and authentic. We do not, for example, masquerade howlite as turquoise or purple glass as amethyst (common practices at retail chain stores and such). With butchbeads, you are getting the real deal. Our prices are low—compared to other jewelers offering similar quality—because we buy well, and we’re not greedy.
